How do I scan books into my library?
Tap the "+" button in your library, then choose "Scan Books". Point your camera at your book spines and Bookra will automatically recognize them. For best results, ensure good lighting and hold your phone steady. You can scan multiple books at once!
π Important Note: Scanning only captures basic book information such as title, author, and cover image. Bookra uses AI to provide reading guides, related insights, and helps you track your reading progress and reflections for physical books. Bookra does not provide full e-book content.
What is AI X-Ray Analysis?
AI X-Ray is our signature feature that analyzes books through three dimensions:
Skeleton: The book's structure, key concepts, and framework
Dissection: Deeper themes, arguments, and interconnected ideas
Soul: The emotional core, author's intent, and philosophical essence
This helps you understand books at multiple levels and discover connections you might miss.
How accurate is the book scanning?
Recognition depends on lighting, image clarity and how visible the book spines are. Check the recognized titles and authors before adding them. If a book is missed, try a clearer photo, an ISBN scan or a title search.
Do I need an internet connection?
Basic library management works offline, but AI-powered features (X-Ray Analysis, Mood Recommendations, Themed Paths) require an internet connection. Once generated, AI insights are saved locally and can be viewed offline.
What's the difference between Individual and Family subscriptions?
Free: 30 books and 2 AI insights per day.
Individual: Unlimited books and AI insights, $4.99/month or $39.99/year in the US store.
Family: Individual features for up to 6 people in total, including the purchaser, through Apple Family Sharing. $7.99/month or $69.99/year in the US store.
Paid subscriptions have no free trial. Prices vary by region; check the pricing page and App Store purchase sheet.
How do mood-based recommendations work?
Describe your current mood and AI will suggest related books from your shelf, explaining its recommendations. Suggestions are a reading aid; you choose which book to read.
Can I export my library data?
Yes! Go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Export Library. You can export your:

AI features use third-party AI services to process relevant book data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Why is AI analysis taking a long time?
Processing time varies with your internet connection, the requested analysis and service availability. Check your connection and try again if the request fails. If the issue continues, contact support@bookra.im with the feature name and the error message; avoid sending private reading notes.
Is my reading data private?
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information for third-party marketing. AI features use third-party AI services to process relevant book data, as explained in our Privacy Policy. Please read it for information about processing, storage and your data rights.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through Apple:
1. Open Settings on your iPhone
2. Tap your name at the top
3. Tap "Subscriptions"
4. Select "Bookra"
5. Tap "Cancel Subscription"
You'll retain access until the end of your billing period.
